Court Filing Fee
The court filing fee for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is now $335.00 and the Chapter 13 filing fee is $310.00. This fee applies whether the case is for an individual or a married couple.
Credit Counseling Course
In order to file a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you must first take a credit counseling course during the 180 days before your case is submitted to the Bankruptcy Court. This course is usually taken over the internet, takes around one or two hours to complete and the cost is generally $15.00. There is no requirement to 'pass' the course, but rather it is designed to help people determine if bankruptcy is their best option.
Debtor Education Course
Finally, about two months after your bankruptcy case is filed with the Court, you will need to take a second course on the internet called Debtor Education. This course is designed to help people learn how to use credit wisely after their case is finished and the cost is $10.00.
If you choose to meet with one of our Bronx bankruptcy attorneys, all of the fees and costs of your case will be discussed in detail before you decide whether to move forward and there are never any surprises after the case is submitted to the Court.
